The Initial Meeting lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. We do not charge a fee for this meeting. It is intended for us to discuss our planning process, your goals, and the nature of the issues you face. At the conclusion of the meeting, I will give you a road map as to how to move forward. If you choose to proceed, you will sign an engagement agreement that specifically states what services I will provide and I will charge for these services. If, at the end of the Initial Meeting, you know that you would like an estate plan, but you are not certain what type of plan best fits your needs, we offer two options:
I will draft a detailed letter explaining your options and how each option affects you based on your specific facts and circumstances. I will establish a fee for this letter, which is payable in advance.
We will schedule an additional face-to-face meeting, which will last up to 90 minutes. There will be a fee for this additional meeting.
The Design Meeting will be two to three weeks after your Initial Meeting. At the Design Meeting, we will go into a more in-depth discussion of how you wish to provide for yourself and your family. We will build your estate plan step by step, discussing each concept and how best to accomplish your goals. In many cases, we can combine the Design Meeting with the Initial Meeting.
We will schedule a Signing Meeting approximately three weeks after the Design Meeting. The Signing Meeting usually takes between 60 and 90 minutes. At the Signing Meeting, we will review the plan in detail and sign all necessary documents. The remaining portion of your attorney fee is due at that time.
Funding & Review Meeting
“Funding” is the process of ensuring that your assets are structured such that your plan works correctly. A perfectly designed Will or Trust will be ineffective if your assets are not property titled or payable to the desired entity. We often schedule a Review Meeting approximately one month after signing. At this meeting, we will make sure all necessary assets have been transferred correctly and any beneficiary designations have been completed. We are also happy to meet with your family members during this meeting.
